Step off the edge of the Wild Atlantic Way and experience the thrill of catching a wave at Ireland’s number one surfing beach. Visit the bustling seaside village of Strandhill and learn to surf with a top Irish Surf School. Meet Seamus Mc Goldrick, a native of Strandhill and Ireland’s most well known professional bodyboarder.  Seamus will fill you in on all you need to know about the Irish surf scene and the heritage and history of County Sligo.

 

Follow your friendly Sligo Surf Experience surf  instructor as they guide to the beach and show you how to lie on your board and ‘pop up’ to your feet in one, two or three easy steps.

 

Breathe in the fresh sea air, feel the wind on your face and sand between your toes during your engaging and exhilarating surf experience.Feel safe surfing in a fun, structured environment with a team of friendly and professional surf instructors.

 

Return to shore refreshed and invigorated and explore the walks, eateries and attractions of Strandhill beachfront promenade.

Try the local cuisine and soak up the athmosphere of the authentic local traditional pubs. Reenergise after your surf sessions at a local bespoke yoga studio, Salt and Soul. Relax in a hot seaweed bath – a traditional Irish organic therapy – and learn all about the theraputic benefits of seaweed.

 

Hike up iconic Knocknarea Mountain to take in the panoramic view of Coolera Penninsula and the Atlantic Ocean. Visit the 5,000 year old neolithic tomb on the sacred summit of Knocknarea, which according to local legend is the grave of an ancient warrior Queen.

 

Experience the other activities Adventure Sligo has to offer and explore the area’s scenic looped walks and sample some of the local craft beers in the best local bars where you’ll also experience Sligo’s famous, world class live music scene.

Itinerary of the trip

Please note: the trip may take slightly longer than the itinerary states due to weather etc.

Day 1

Starts at 10 am or 2 pm (time vary and exact surfing time will be confirmed with you on booking)

  • Arrive at Strandhill Beach car park 10 minutes before start time to find parking space
  • Meet Seamus at his branded Sligo Surf Experience surf van
  • Sign in for your surf lesson and get sized up for your wetsuit and surf boots
  • You will be escorted to the changing rooms and shown how to get into your wetsuit
  • Return to the meet up point, deposit your clothes in the storage area and collect your surfboard.
  • Your surf instructor will guide you to the beach and give you a brief safety talk where you learn the ABCs of surfing
  • Jump in the ocean and practice what you have learned in wiast deep water in a sturctured, supervised and encouraging environment
  • When your time is up, it is time for a quick group photo on the beach
  • Return to the meet up point, collect your belongings and get changed
  • Seamus will bid you a fond farewell
  • Go explore Strandhill or grab and ice cream or lunch on the prom
